Washington, DC/NEW YORK METRO – May 22, 2012 –The COPD Foundation (COPDF) and the New York Mets will host Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Awareness Night at Citi Field in Flushing, N.Y., Saturday, June 16, 2012, at 7:15 p.m. The event honors longtime Mets executive Bob Mandt, who passed away from COPD, and raises awareness about a disease that is the third leading cause of death in the US.  Attendees are invited to learn more by reading the COPD Foundation’s educational materials and by taking its free five-question population screener inside the ballpark.

“COPD Awareness Night is an effective way to educate New Yorkers about the disease, and help improve longevity and the quality of life for those who have COPD,” says Dave Barringer, executive director, COPD Foundation.

To purchase tickets in the Promenade Infield, $40 per ticket, go to http://www.mets.com/COPD. Byron Thomashow, M.D., Chair of the Board of Directors of the COPD Foundation, clinical professor of Medicine, Columbia University Medical Center, and attending physician, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, adds, “Many individuals are living with COPD and don’t know it, often dismissing its symptoms – breathlessness, wheezing and chronic coughing – as signs of aging. So we are pleased once again to team up with the Mets to bring greater awareness to more people so that they can take precautions to protect their lung health.”
