The Red Bank Humanists (RBH) will host a talk by Rob Palmer entitled “Guerilla Skeptics on Wikipedia: A Pathway to Skeptical Activism.” The event will be held Sunday, September 9th, from 10:30 AM to 12 noon at the Red Bank Charter School, 58 Oakland Street. The program is open to the public and admission is free.

Rob Palmer will provide an introduction to the “Guerrilla Skepticism on Wikipedia” project, which battles conspiracy theories, alt-med and pseudoscience, and improves Skeptical information in the world's number one source of general knowledge. His talk will address the following topics:

      • Why is Wikipedia important to the Skeptical movement?
      • What is the scope of the Guerrilla Skeptics team’s work on Wikipedia?
      • What are some examples of GSoW’s work?
      • What is the impact of GSoW’s work?

Rob Palmer has spent his professional career in many roles including spacecraft designer, computer programmer, and software systems engineer. He is currently a columnist for Skeptical Inquirer and has finally found his true calling as a skeptical activist with the Guerrilla Skeptics team.

At the September forum, the Red Bank Humanists will be collecting items for the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, which provides free, in-home support for families in New Jersey facing pediatric cancer. Their greatest needs at this time are pasta sauce, peanut butter, breakfast foods, 100% fruit juice, laundry products, soaps, shampoos, paper goods and Shop Rite gift cards.
