      Mindfulness Ambassador Youth Council

"The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace."

       Thich Nhat Hanh

The Mindfulness Ambassador Council (MAC) program offers a forum to meet face to face and learn about constructive ways for addressing personal, social and community challenges. Essentially, the MAC establishes a common language based on sharing, modeling and practicing the principles that provide members with tools to strengthen their well-being, think critically and act with thoughtfulness and compassion.  As well, council members pledge to develop the skills, knowledge and attitude to engage constructively in an increasingly interdependent world and to become messengers of mindful living within their families, schools, places of business and communities, hence mindfulness ambassadors.

At the heart of the MAC program are basic mindfulness practices that youth access the wisdom within themselves and within the group. Participants are encouraged to speak from the heart, ask questions to discover their fullest potential, and explore possibilities that lead to a culture of mutual respect, collaboration and ethical concern for each other and the world.

Your child has been invited to participate in the first pre-teen (grades 4-6) pilot program, sponsored in part by the HK Project.  Youth ambassadors will meet Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 pm begining January 17th.  The Center's doors open at 3:15 pm Thursday's.  This program has been developed for our younger community members after 4 sucessful SOMa teen councils revealed a desire to have participated before moving up to middle and/or high school.

Stephanie Jelley, CEO of umojawa and Shannon Brantley, adjunct professor of Psychology, will co-facilitate the pilot program.

To register, kindly RSVP via Eventbrite or send email to hello@umojawa.com. This program continues to exist in our community through the generosity of its members and donations are welcome to help ensure the sustainability of the program.
