Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble

Cellist Yo-Yo Ma returns with his Silk Road Ensemble. A celebration of music, crisscrossing centuries, continents and cultures.

Composed of virtuoso musicians, composers, arrangers, visual artists and storytellers from more than 20 countries, Yo-Yo Ma’s exuberant Silk Road Ensemble was formed in 1998 to explore and celebrate cultural, artistic and intellectual traditions drawn from the ancient trade routes (the so-called “silk road”) that stretched from the Mediterranean Sea to the Pacific Ocean.

This one-of-a-kind world music collective – described as “a roving musical laboratory without walls” by The Boston Globe – has since recorded six albums, including the GRAMMY-nominated Sing Me Home) and has been the subject of the acclaimed 2016 documentary The Music of Strangers.

“Uninhibitedly joyous!” says The Los Angeles Times. “Yo-Yo Ma’s grandly all-encompassing world music band that seeks to find meeting points for musical traditions from China to Europe, has proved to be the ever-curious cellist’s most valuable project.”

Join us for the Bank of America Classical Overtures, held an hour prior to each classical concert. These interactive presentations are hosted by Maestro George Marriner Maull of New Jersey’s Discovery Orchestra and are free to ticket holders.
