Before Manhattan's Lower East Side became known as a hotspot for up-and-coming local bands, Arlene's Grocery was bringing punk, hard rock, and alternative to its humble stage. Located on Stanton Street, the bar retained the storefront of the bodega that once occupied the space, giving it an exclusive, ironic feel. Some of the biggest names in music got their start playing on Arlene's schedule, including The Strokes and The Bravery. Audiences continue to flock to this famous New York venue to see what bands performing will end up in Rolling Stone in the future.
In addition to phenomenal bands performing most nights of the week, there are many regular bar events that bring in customers. Arlene's Grocery is well known for its live Rock and Roll Karaoke, which attracts both average and celebrity participants. The Open Mic Night also attracts a fair amount of customers, but the main draw continues to be the local punk and hardcore music that dominates the events calendar each month.
Whether they're there to see their favorite band, want to see some local music, or just want to grab a drink, audiences will be amazed with Arlene's Grocery. For a full schedule of musicians performing at Arlene's Grocery, be sure to check Eventful often.
