The C-47 Flight Experience, Honoring the 75th Anniversary of D-Day

Flashback: it’s 75 years ago and you’re gearing up to fly out for Operation Overlord, codename for the Battle of Normandy. Now’s your chance to step back in time and take flight in an original WWII C-47 to get a taste of what a 101st Airborne Paratrooper experienced in the infamous 1,200-plane airborne D-Day assault. Join New York Adventure Club for an airborne experience with the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, Long Island — once home to Republic Aviation, this complex was a crucial part of the “Arsenal of Democracy” as it produced over 9,000 P-47 Thunderbolts that would help the Allied powers win WWII. Led by a living historian, who will be playing the role of your commanding officer, your 75th Anniversary D-Day Flight Experience as a WWII paratrooper will include: A mission briefing for Operation Overlord, aka the Battle of Normandy — the Allied operation that launched the successful invasion of German-occupied Western Europe during World War II The opportunity to wear authentic military field jackets, helmets, and gear throughout your mission The rare chance to take flight inside an original WWII C-47, one of the few true C-47s still in stock military configuration today Afterward, you'll have an opportunity to tour the American Airpower Museum, which contains over a dozen flight-ready military aircraft used throughout the 20th century. See you there! *Please wear long khaki pants **Guests will be required to fill out a liability waiver before taking flight Transportation *Please double check train departure times the day before as schedules can shift due to track work. Take the Long Island Rail Road Ronkonkomo line departing from Penn Station, and disembark at the Farmingdale Station — a cab or Uber will need to be taken to the museum.
