Leaving no one behind: Using a multidimensional approach to eradicate poverty and monitor SDG progress at the national level

Poverty is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon that goes beyond the simple lack of income. Multidimensional poverty measures can be used to create a more comprehensive picture of the experiences and challenges of poverty. UNDP and OPHI developed a Handbook, How to Build a National Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI): Using the MPI to inform the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to be launched at this event. The event will showcase experiences from Afghanistan, Colombia, and Pakistan.             Organizers: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. UNDP helps countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results. Oxford Poverty & Human Development Initiative (OPHI) is an economic research and policy centre within the Oxford Department of International Development at the University of Oxford. OPHI aims to build and advance a more systematic methodological and economic framework for reducing multidimensional poverty, grounded in people’s experiences and values.
