"Many Faces of Abstraction" Paintings by Hilda Green Demsky

Harrison Council for the Arts presents “Many Facets of Abstraction” paintings by Hilda Green Demsky at the Harrison Public Library on view May 5-31, 2019; meet the artist May 11 from 2:00-4:00 pm.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT: Change is a very important concept in nature and in my art. My painting has evolved over seven decades and now, in 2019, I am leaving behind my impressions of landscapes and my love affair with painting the various characteristics of water. I have embraced and returned to abstract expressionism. The uniqueness of painting without imagery transports me into a world of emotions and reflections. I am relying solely on my choice of vibrant colors, attention-grabbing shapes, and wiggly lines that move in many directions. This freedom allows me to paint with emotion, energy and spirit. Sometimes, reading the newspaper inspires me to visually express in paint my thoughts about the bright and the dark issues of our times. My paintings loosely relate to the outside world but also express my inner experiences.

Hilda graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting and Design. She earned her Master’s Degree at Hunter College. Hilda is an award-winning artist who has exhibited and taught extensively. She is a member of the Mamaroneck Artists Guild, Katonah Museum Artists Association, Women in the Arts Association, the National Association of Women Artists, and Pleiades Gallery in New York City.

The exhibit may be viewed Mondays and Wednesdays 9:30am to 9:00pm; Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays 9:30am to 5:30pm and Sundays 1:00pm to 5:00pm. For info call the Library 914-835-0324 or see
