      Scout Conservation Project Day

Sagamore Hill will host Scout Conservation Project Days on the third Saturday of the month from March to November. These projects will run from 10:00AM to 2:00PM and will address a variety of park issues from trail maintenance to invasive plant control.Participants will be registered as NPS volunteers and receive a certificate attesting to the hours that they worked for their records. Volunteer time on these projects will also count toward the ten hours of service required to earn a Scout Ranger patch. Some of the projects may include: trail maintenance, weed pulling, brush removal, habitat improvement, gardening, repair of benches, citizen science. The National Park Service and the Boy Scouts of America are national partners. The Boy Scouts of America require community service for rank advancement. Some ranks specifically require conservation service. Theodore Roosevelt was an early supporter of Scouting, and was declared the Chief Scout Citizen in 1911. TR was also an early supporter of conservation. Having Scouts conduct conservation projects at TR’s home is a natural fit. Remember to wear appropriate clothing for outdoor work and to bring a lunch. Safety gloves and tools will be provided by Sagamore Hill. Please register the name of each participating Scout.
