Self-advocacy & Self- determination - For Parents/Guardians How can you develop self-determination and self-advocacy skills in youth with disabilities, as they make decisions about their academic and postsecondary plans? This workshop allows families to develop a deeper understanding of the importance of these skills, and how to use them. Additionally, they will hear from a former student with an IEP who reflects on their education experiences and the impact of self-determination and self-advocacy on their life choices. Transition and College Access Centers will support schools and families with facilitating self-determination and self-advocacy skills for students with IEPs from school to adult life, in preparation to be productive members of society. NOTE: If you require interpretation services or other accommodations, please contact qnstcac@schools.nyc.gov at least one week prior to the workshop. *Families: We welcome families to the borough TCAC offices to provide individual assistance. For appointments to support you throughout the year, please reach out to your borough TCAC office directly.
