Unwavering Truth: Archive of Our Own

Unwavering Truth: Archive of Our Own is a new exhibit at the Queens Museum opening on Saturday, November 15th. The exhibition presents an honest look at people living with Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2), a manifestation of neurofibromatosis that affects 1 in 25,000 people. NF is a genetic disorder that can cause tumors to grow throughout the body and can lead to cancer, blindness, deafness, bone abnormalities, learning disabilities and disabling pain.

The exhibit was conceptualized by Kristina Diaz, a local artist who expresses her experience living with NF2 through art, and tells her story in relation to Nathalie Trytell, another artist who, while striving to maintain her artistic voice despite physical inability to do so, passed away in 2011.

The exhibit will display MRI & CT scans, poetry, paintings, pictures and sculpture to exemplify how the artists view living with NF. At the same time, the exhibit aims to show that the subjects’ sole trait is not the disorder, but that there is life beyond NF2.

Cost: The museum is open Wed-Sun 12-6pm. Suggested Admission: $8 for adults and children over 12; $4 for students and seniors; Children under 12 attend for free
