Zine Launch and Public Reading: Streaks of Lavender

Zine Launch and Reading : Streaks of Lavender Tuesday, April 30, 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM Join the alumni of Leslie- Lohman's Creative Writing from Queer Resistance for the launch of their zine Streaks Of Lavender Issue #1: Rage. Streaks of Lavender was created by and features work from the alum writers of the “Creative Writing from Queer Resistance” workshop, led by writer Nancy Agabian. Rage is the theme of the zine’s debut issue, in honor of this year’s 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. The writers will be reading selections from the zine and celebrating the launch. Copies of Streaks of Lavender will be available for purchase.  Creative Writing from Queer Resistance is an eight-week workshop that started in 2017 and brought together a group of 10-15 queer writers to meet in community and read the work of queer writers before them, including the inspiring texts of Audre Lorde, Gloria Anzaldua, James Baldwin and other literary heroes, and to continue their legacy of queer resistance through writing. Join us in the Museum’s beautiful, queer creative space as we share our resulting texts that express our resistance to the oppressions we face in this particular cultural moment under the current administration. Hear our short stories, essays, poems, plays, and mixed/multi-genre texts of defiance and celebration: physical and mindful, experimental and innovative. Doors open 6PM. RSVP via Eventbrite is required and only guarentees entry until 6:30PM, so please arrive promptly to secure your seat.
